Ford Upgrades China's Power Supply with EcoBoost

Ford lovers in China will soon get a drivetrain treat. In an effort to bring the sizeable global market up to speed, the automaker will send a total of 20 new engines and 15 new models to the country's shores by 2015. Though we can't make out the specific engine and model identities quite yet, we can say that Ford EcoBoost technology will be a key player in perfecting China's powertrain portfolio.

Already available here in the U.S. with such models as the Ford Fiesta, EcoBoost adds direct fuel injection, variable valve timing and turbocharging. The technology works to lower carbon dioxide emissions and increase fuel-economy while simultaneously improving engine performance. With so much potential packed into one drivetrain, it's no wonder Ford expects high circulation. In fact, by 2013, the automaker anticipates a rate of 1.5-million EcoBoost motors sold per year.

In conjunction with EcoBoost, six-speed automatic transmissions will be offered for Chinese consumers as well. Specifically, we're talking the PowerShift dual-clutch gearbox as seen in the domestic Ford Focus variant.

The engine upgrade will take place over the next few years and will be fully supported by the Chinese government. Country officials note that cleaning up the country's air supply is vital and as its population consumes more cars, those cars must consume less fuel.

Jerry's Ford Leesburg is pleased to see our favorite automaker taking an environmental stance across the entire globe. It gives us confidence that on the brink of technological and economic change, Ford is heading strongly in the right direction. Not that we need much of a confidence booster...after all, we have a tremendous amount of faith in every new Ford model that arrives at our 847 East Market Street Leesburg, VA 20176 location.
